The “Keep It With You” (KIWY) Personal Medical Information Form is intended to be a voluntary and temporary record that lists medical care and other health information for people who need care during disasters and similar situations. It is important for health care workers to have a simple and reliable way to learn information about past and new health concerns for people receiving help.

Child and Family Resources Social Work Practice: Health Topics Social Work Resources: Administration Beyond Trauma, by Victor Volkman Beyond Trauma describes a technique known as Traumatic Incident Reduction and how it has been successfully used around the world: from Australia to Russia and from South Africa to New Zealand, TIR has been used by social workers, psychologists, and other helping professionals to relieve the effects of traumatic stress, including PTSD. Because of its person-centered, non-evaluative model it does not suffer many of the cultural gaffes that other talking therapies succumb to. Full information can be found at http://www.BeyondTrauma.com In addition, two new books on social work in health and mental health have been published by the American publisher Haworth Press. The articles come from five continents and cover a wide range of social work perspectives. The first versions of these articles were presented in the 3rd International Conference on Social Work in Health and Mental Health in Tampere, Finland, but after the conference these papers have been selected carefully and developed thoroughly. 1) SOCIAL WORK APPROACHES IN HEALTH AND MENTAL HEALTH FROM AROUND THE GLOBE Social Work Approaches in Health and Mental Health from Around the Globe is a valuable stepping stone toward an understanding of the diversity of methods utilized in social work for community health services. This work stems from material gathered at the Third International Conference on Social Work in Health and Mental Health, held in Tampere, Finland. In this book, you will find new creative theoretical and practical orientations for designing, developing, and analyzing social work to help you produce policies and services in which clients can positively and productively invest. Social Work Approaches in Health and Mental Health from Around the Globe covers a long period in the history of social work in health issues, from theoretical treatises to empirical research and analyses of practices. The book provides you with research, case studies, and existing international and national literature from India, Botswana, Taiwan, Lithuania, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the United States. This resource explores the shared qualities of social work in health services throughout the world despite differences between countries in terms of culture, social system, and history. Although these experts come from different parts of the world, the book displays an emergence of similar issues and themes, including: - the development of expertise for social workers in the health and mental health fields
- social work as an agent of change that crosses borders, operates on many levels, and across many dimensions of society
- community-based care principles, perspectives, marginalized groups, and the role of the social worker
- dual divisions, becoming aware of and choosing a position in work practice
2) SOCIAL WORK VISIONS FROM AROUND THE GLOBE: CITIZENS, METHODS, AND APPROACHES Social Work Visions from Around the Globe examines the fundamental principles and dilemmas of social work with people whose health is under threat. This valuable resource was compiled from material presented at the Third International Conference on Social Work in Health and Mental Health in Tampere, Finland. The book explores key issues in social work in health and mental health, from the early historical roots of social work in health to developing a human rights perspective on the lives of men who face capital punishment. Using tables, figures, case studies, and interviews, the text will help you provide holistic, client-based care to children, men, women, and families. Social Work Visions from Around the Globe is divided into two sections: the first half discusses the position of individuals and families as users of health and mental health care services. Specific cases in the book include social work situations for children with disabilities, the mentally ill, the elderly, cancer, and HIV/AIDS. This text includes research and findings on the challenges and solutions faced by social workers in North America, Australia, Europe, Asia, and Africa.
