About Us |
Meredith Westerman created the Global Social Work Network as a result of years of frustration as she tried to locate overseas employment as a social work professional. As she researched social work regulation and licensure in other countries, she found there were limited resources for those trying to broaden their social work scope of practice. During her research, there were few individuals, agencies, and organizations that could provide answers to basic questions. Thus, she decided long ago that there needed to be a place, a network, for those trying to pursue employment overseas. In 2003, Meredith created the Global Social Work Network, or the GSWN.
Our founder obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Minor in French at the University of Arizona, USA. During her undergraduate studies, she attended a semester abroad at the International University at Richmond College in London, England. Over the course of her college years, she explored over 15 countries, which is where her zest for international travel and passion for other cultures was born. Upon her graduation from the U of A, she spent six months traveling in Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji.
Meredith then obtained her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado, USA. She realized her excitement for medical social work and declared her concentration in medical social work and direct practice. After completion of this degree, she then pursued further education in Austin, Texas and soon completed supervision to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) by the state of Texas. Meredith has also obtained reciprocity by the state of Washington as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW). In addition, the Central Council on Education and Training in Social Work has verified her to practice in the UK.
Meredith is a friend of the International Federation of Social Workers. In addition, she has been very active in the Society of Social Work Leadership In Health Care. Her other memberships include, the Council of Nephrology Social Workers, the National Association of Social Workers, and the International Air Courier Association.
Meredith traveled to Asia in 2003 for several months to research more on what would become the GSWN. She has an additional office in Austin, Texas where she conducts most of her business. She also continues to broaden her travel destinations.
Meredith's professional passions include oncology, crisis intervention, CISM, End Stage Renal Disease, infectious diseases, spinal cord and brain injuries, case management, and hospital and emergency room social work.
